So, Rachel. This is the eternal Jacob vs. Edward battle, but broken-down.
Who respects Bella? Who completes Bella? Does it make sense to have a rivalry in the first place--I mean, come on, it's a VAMPIRE SERIES. O_O
Anyway. Other thoughts? Suggestions for a better man for her? Or is Bella better as a nun?
Well, Catherine, I think that from the respect side of things, I'm going to have to go with Jacob. I mean come on, in Eclipse, Edward is a total control freak about 'keeping her safe'. But if he trusted and respected her, would he feel the need to do that?
ReplyDeleteHowever, as we find out in Breaking Dawn, it is not Bella that Jacob is meant for, but her daughter, Reneesme (spelling?). And in Eclipse, Bella spends a night crying over the loss of Jacob. She spends MONTHS in New Moon in DEEP depression over the absence of Edward.
In conclusion, as I told the kids who asked me if I was team Edward or Jacob at the mall a couple weeks ago, I am firmly placed on Team Mike Newton.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I think that Jacob is very childish in everything he does, but they all don't truly understand the prospect of respect. Bella doesn't have much of an opinion to begin with, so that doesn't help much. But Jake is also painted as a jerk, very often, in fact, so that's kind of a disadvantage. Because Edward could never sin against Bella. does not compute.
